This October Soho brought much-loved Indian comedian Zakir Khan to the Royal Albert Hall, in association with OML, AEG and UTA, in an historic first.
Zakir become the first Asian comedian to perform a solo show at the iconic London venue in Hindi, to a sold out crowd.
His three-hour show Mannpasand delighted more than 5,000 of his adoring UK fans, earning him a whopping 20-minute standing ovation.
After the show Zakir said: ‘I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to perform at this historic hall. which has played host to world-famous artists over the years. It feels almost surreal to see my artistic dream turn into reality.’
Followers of Zakir will know that we first brought him to London in 2021 as part of our commitment to bring the best Indian comedy to the UK, and UK and international comedy to India.
In a year of historic firsts, which saw the first India-based comedian Urooj Ashfaq win the Edinburgh Comedy Awards, and an international Emmy award for Indian comedian Vir Das, 2023 really is set to be the year Indian comedy went global.
