Walthamstow FAQs

Keen as a bean to know the low down on our newest venue?

Here you’ll find everything we know (so far) about how Soho theatre Walthamstow is going to work. We’ll be updating this list frequently as we get closer to opening, so check back for more info.

Booking Tickets

Check out what’s on at Soho Theatre Walthamstow here, or by phone on 020 7478 0100 Monday to Saturday, 10am-6pm (but we’re expecting to be quite busy on phone lines so online is probably a little bit quicker).

There’s a booking fee of £2 and a restoration levy of £2 per ticket.

Don’t worry, these are included in the price you see so no hidden extras as you start booking. During the booking process you’ll see them separately (the system will display the fees as cmsm).

A restoration levy is an additional charge added to the price of your ticket, which goes straight to our venue for investment. Most venues, regardless of when they were built, add a restoration levy or similar charge. Soho Theatre Walthamstow is an important historical Grade II* listed building which we’ll be maintaining and protecting for years to come, following a decade-long campaign to save it for the local community, but it will cost a lot to keep it up to scratch.

Waltham Forest Resident Benefits

New Shows Priority Booking

There will be opportunities for Waltham Forest residents to be able to book up to 48 hours before anyone else on selected shows across the first year. Make sure you log in to your Soho Theatre account before trying to book, as your postcode on your account will grant you access to the shows.

15,000 tickets for £15 or less

There are 15,000 tickets for £15 (or less) for locals in the first year (May 2024-May 2025).

The numbers of these vary by performance and are available on a first come first served basis. They’re also available during priority booking periods and general onsale, and occasionally we may add more as we go along. Make sure you add yourself to our Walthamstow mailing list to find out what up and coming shows are on offer.

Please note; these £15 tickets aren’t available on every show and are subject to a fair usage policy;  we reserve the right to ensure tickets aren’t all snapped up by a few to make sure that all residents get an opportunity to access them.

Resident tickets are limited to 4 per order.

We are welcoming anyone who lives, works or studies in the borough of Waltham Forest to access benefits at Soho Theatre Walthamstow.

Postcodes open to these offers are:

E4, E5, E7, E10, E11, E15, E17, E20, IG8, N17

Make sure you are logged in to your Soho Theatre account, that includes your Waltham Forest postcode. Then head to your chosen show page and look for the green stars on the seating plan, which are the £15 Waltham Forest resident tickets. Select those seats and head to check out. Please note there is a limit of 4 tickets per person. If there are no stars on the seating plan the Waltham Forest resident tickets have sold out.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Bit like when your delivery and billing address are different isn’t it? All the system needs to let you in is your work or study postcode. Best thing to do is to create or login to your account and change the postcode to your work or study address. That will notify the system you’re entitled to access priority booking/discounted tickets.

Watch this space, when we’ll be announcing all the finer details closer to opening.

Yeah, we usually accept babes-in-arms at a charge of £1, but please check the website for details of specific baby-friendly performances or to see if there are any exceptions. If you can’t see the info you need, just give us a call and we’ll chat you through it.

From 12 months onwards, everybody needs a ticket.

We get it; some lilluns over 12 months might sit on your knee or not take up much room, but we have a legal capacity on the auditorium and children over 12 months contribute to capacity so it’s a requirement to know that they’re coming. If you don’t tell us in advance and the show is sold out; we won’t be able to get your child into the auditorium.

Please always check the show page on our website for further details. Some of our shows have age recommendations where children can only be admitted with adult supervision. And some of our shows have strict age restrictions according to content.

We welcome younger children, however if they become unsettled during a performance you may be asked to take them outside of the auditorium.

We won’t have a cloakroom so please avoid bringing big items with you.

There will be bike racks outside and opposite the theatre in Cairo Place. We will have a limited area for buggies storage only, allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

We can’t accept responsibility for anything you choose to leave with us or unattended while you’re in a show.

Of course, just don’t take them during the shows please. Tag us @sohotheatre

This is decided on a show-by-show basis. Sometimes we may reserve the right to refuse admission or re-entry to a performance. If you’re late you may either be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance, or be refused admission. Please try and arrive in plenty of time for your show as some performances have a strict no-latecomers policy.

We appreciate your support. You can find details about donating and becoming a supporting partner here.

Getting Involved

There will be tons of ways to get involved and take part (other than being an audience member). We’ll be announcing the first of these soon. Watch. This. Space.

If you’d like to work with us on a project, you can reach out to us by emailing engagement@sohotheatre.com

If you’d like to hire the space, please see the Hires section below.

If you’d like to submit an event for us to consider scheduling in a studio space, send it to submissions@sohotheatre.com with as much detail as possible.

As we haven’t gotten into the building just yet, we’re not quite sure what the process for using spaces across the building will be and can’t tell you more at this time. When we know more, we’ll be updating these FAQs and our webpages accordingly.

As we haven’t yet moved into the building, we’re going to need a little time to get used to it before we can conduct tours. Watch this space for further details.

Hires

We’ll be offering this in the future but at the moment, it’s not something we can work on (and definitely not ‘til we move in).

Despite being a historic Grade II* listed building, it’s pretty much a new theatre, so it’s going to take us a while to get up to speed. As such, we need a little time to make sure we can look after you and help you (and ensure everything works).

As with our studio spaces, it’s going to take us a little while to settle in and work out what’s possible so we won’t be taking hires for any spaces in the building just yet.

Jobs

Great news! All posts are advertised here and we also post vacancies on social media.

We’ll soon be recruiting for our operational teams (ushers, bar staff, technicians) so make sure you’re following us on socials or signed up to our newsletter to see when we’re recruiting.

We’re chuffed to hear your considering a career in the performing arts. These aren’t something we can offer at the moment but we’ll be looking at whether it’s something we can do in the future.

Please note: due to the nature of some of our work, we usually can’t offer these to persons under 18 years of age.

Anything else

Don’t panic. There’s loads more FAQs to come as we get closer to opening the venue.

If you can’t find an answer here, chances are we just don’t know yet.

If you’re desperate to know something now that isn’t mentioned, email us at info@sohotheatre.com and we’ll tell you as much as we know.

Please don’t call the Box Office as they’re not likely to have the answers.
