This is a unique and exciting opportunity to build your skills and ignite your passion for the performing arts. Provided by Future Formed in partnership with: Jacksons Lane Arts Centre, Theatre Peckham, Arcola Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre, The Pleasance, Little Angel Theatre and (of course) Soho Theatre.
You’ll learn how theatre lighting works including:
- Rigging lights for live shows
- How to operate a sound and lighting desk
- Basics of looking after a professional working stage
Successful candidates will receive 1 week free training from a top professional Theatre Technician at Camden People’s Theatre. They will then be paid to continue their training in a professional venue for a week, putting their learning into practise on live productions.
The training on offer includes:
- 1 week training in a working theatre from a highly experienced professional theatre technician
- 1 weeks paid placement (London living wage) at a professional venue
- Opportunities to network with potential employers
- Tickets to live performances outside the borough
By the end of your training you will
- Feel more confident working with technical equipment for theatre and music events
- Have developed basic skills in the area you are teaching
- Have access to a range of organisations that need casual theatre technician staff on a regular basis (there is currently a shortage of technicians in the live events industry)
- Have the option to develop your tech skills further
- Have the option to work with an industry mentor to allow further access to jobs and opportunities
‘Having completed the Future Technicians course with Future Formed, I now feel more confident. I’m considering training as a lighting technician, something I had not previously thought about. The world feels as though it’s gotten bigger since completing the course.’
