The Tiger Lillies present a Soho-themed show drawing on frontman Martyn Jacques’s life in the neighbourhood in the ’80s – gangsters and working girls, late-night boozers and drugs, friends past and present.
‘It’s a remarkable performance, one which confirms that behind the greasepaint lurks genuine emotion’
The world of The Tiger Lillies is dark, peculiar and varied, with moments of deep sadness, cruel black humour and immense beauty. Formed in 1989, they remain one of the most unique, provocative and genre-defying bands one could come across. Olivier award winners and Grammy nominated, the music they produce is a mixture of pre-war Berlin cabaret, anarchic opera and gypsy music, echoing the voices of Bertolt Brecht and Jacques Brel fused with the savage edge of punk.
‘Martyn Jacques is a charismatic focus. Trudging between his piano and accordion like a man weighed down by supernatural dread – yet his voice is a molten cascade. The execution is impeccable throughout. Phenomenal’
