Soho Rising Festival presents:

OommoO

by Lula Mebrahtu Fri 16 – Sat 17 Feb 60 minutes
An acronym for One-of-many-many-of-One, teleports you to a day in the life of 1st generation immigrant Lula Berhane as she navigates the duality of two cultures, her Habesha (Eritrean/Ethiopian) and British identity.

It asks what happens when you’ve left everything behind for the promise of something better, and the something ‘better’ isn’t ‘better’? When you have nothing but memories and memory is fading, what do you have?

Interweaving language+customs+music with wearable tech MiMu gloves, it’s a poetic reflection of an emotionally visceral experience unpacked through an Afro-Futuristic East African lens.

OommoO, neither a gig theatre, musical or drama… It’s a new kind of storytelling.

Part of Soho Rising Festival 2024, a celebration of new work created by comedians, writers and performers who have taken part in our Writers’ Lab, Comedy Lab or Cabaret & Drag Lab programmes.
