SEAN CHOOLBURRA

Sean Choolburra is known as the Godfather of Indigenous Comedy.

His comedy career began in 2002 when he represented NSW in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s RAW Comedy National Grand Final. He has since gone on to host two seasons of NITV’s Express Yourself and had appeared on The Footy Show, Thank God You’re Here and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala.

Alongside a busy comedy touring schedule, Sean is the voice of Maynard in the BBC’s Bluey.

Sean’s professional dance career includes creating the Ngaru Dance Company and performing all over the world with the renowned Bangarra Dance Company, including by invitation for the Dalai Lama, and Prince Charles. As a member of the Black Cockatoo Dance Company he has performed in New York, America and Chengdu and Chongqing in China.

A proud Aboriginal man, Sean maintains and practices the cultural traditions of his father’s people the “Girramay” and his mother’s people the ‘Kalkadoon, Pitta Pitta and Gugu Yalanji’.

JANTY BLAIR

Janty Blair is a Butchulla, Mununjali and Woppaburra, from her mother’s side and Cobble Cobble on her father’s side. Janty burst onto the Australian comedy scene in 2022 when she won the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s National Deadly Funny competition. Deadly Funny encourages and celebrates exciting First Nations talent from across Australia, with previous alumni including Steph Tisdell and Kevin Kropinyeri.

It was in February this year after a Bumble date in Byron Bay that Janty first gave comedy a crack. She decided she wanted to see someone on stage who looked like and represented her – a First Nations older woman – and age would not be a barrier to performing! Janty is inspired by the comedians in her family, her mob and community; her Tiddas at home. They are the comedians she loves and admires.

A midwife and nurse for almost 3 decades, Janty is currently in the middle of a Fine Arts degree (Drama) at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

JAY WYMARRA

Festival newcomer Jay Wymarra is one of the most exciting names on the Australian comedy circuit.

After being a three-time finalist Deadly Funny competition at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Jay was handpicked by the Festival to join the 2022 Comedy Zone which was applauded as ‘the strongest Comedy Zone ensemble of rising stars yet’ – no mean feat considering the line-up has previously showcased Hannah Gadsby, Ronny Chieng and Josh Thomas.

He has appeared on the hit ABC TV show Rosehaven alongside Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor.

KEVIN KROPINYERI

A proud Ngarrindjeri man, Kevin Kropinyeri is one of Australia’s premier comedians.

Since winning Deadly Funny in 2008, Kev has gone on to appear on Australia’s biggest stages including at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival gala and across Australia on Roadshow.

A national treasure, Kev and the Aboriginal Comedy Allstars were featured in the Tourism Australia Campaign alongside iconic Aussies Kylie Minogue, Shane Warne, Ian Thorpe and Adam Hills.

Kev made his Edinburgh Fringe debut in 2019 and achieved sell out performances and rave reviews with the original Aboriginal Comedy Allstars show. He’s looking forward to replicating that success with a new Allstars show.
