Soho Theatre have banded together with Channel 4 and South Asian Creatives to offer you this unique and exciting opportunity to learn more about how to break into the world of scripted comedy and drama for TV.
We are offering a fun and informative line-up of panel talks with veteran TV comedy and drama writers, directors and producers; Q&A sessions with TV commissioners; workshop exercises; and networking events.
If you are of British-Asian or South Asian heritage, a writer, director or producer working in scripted or a comedian, and you have enough experience under your belt that you feel ready to explore making work for screen, this is absolutely for you.
This two-day intensive is for mid-level and experienced artists. In order to keep this opportunity open to artists from a mix of different making backgrounds (whether you’re mostly a performer or mostly a writer, director, producer, or something else entirely), we aren’t in a position to set perfectly clear, unshiftable parameters around what we mean by mid-career – so we are asking you to self-define (which we know can be murky). But please know that this is so that we can keep the opportunity open to people from different making backgrounds and experiences. Outside of the parameters of being of South Asian heritage, mid-career and in scripted or in comedy, everyone is welcome: we warmly welcome all ages 18+, and are a LGBTQIA+ and d/Deaf and disability forward venue.
If you want to understand and learn more about this two-day intensive, and about Channel 4’s broader initiatives to support under-represented Scripted talent and Indies, you can find out here.
If you are a beginner or still in the early stages of your career, please note that this intensive is not the best fit for you. But don’t worry, we have plenty of opportunities for beginners and emerging artists on our Artists & Take Part page!
Schedule (specific timings and agenda to follow)
