London’s most vibrant producer for new theatre, comedy and cabaret.
Soho Theatre is a charity and a social enterprise that’s as entrepreneurial as it is innovative. We’ve always been ambitious.
In the 70s and 80s we were an important fringe company. In the 90s we split our time between the Cockpit and embarking on funding and building our new premises in Dean Street. In 2000 we launched the theatre in the heart of Soho as you know it now (with a few updates and additions along the way). More recently you’ll have seen us in local London boroughs, in Soho, on the telly, airline entertainment and On Demand. We’ve also been busy touring the UK as well as India, Ireland and Australia. We’re currently looking at how we can safeguard our future and continue to share work with you.
We have almost trebled our audiences, opened a new venue and produced more work than ever before. Each year we have over 2000 performances on our stages and audiences of more than 220,000 people see our work in London and across the world.
We’re London’s most vibrant producer for new theatre, comedy and cabaret.
We are looking for unique and unheard voices – from all backgrounds, attitudes and places.
We read over 2000 scripts submitted to our team and we invite writers to apply for our Verity Bargate Award and our Tony Craze Young Writer’s Award.
And every year over 1000 people take part in our outreach programmes and we host 350 budding artists through Soho Theatre Labs (our artist and talent development programmes).
Soho Theatre are encouraging me to think bigger and beyond.
Charlotte Josephine
We act in whatever way serves the show-in-the-making.
We have lots of awards, schemes and programmes to help find, focus and develop it, but the tail never wags the dog – the work leads.
We have writers on under commission on our Soho Six programme, we offer advice, space, previews and workshops to upcoming artists and we collaborate and discover with our associate artists, companies, venues and partners.
A powerhouse of creativity that feels entirely inclusive; comedy, cabaret and theatre, the venn diagram – it’s all there.
Joel Horwood, Playwright
Over the past three years, we played a part in getting 177 new shows and over 1500 artists in front of an audience.
We move in many ways to get work to our stages.
We want to initiate and produce more quality work and deepen our resources for its creation, support, performance and exposure.

Our audience is diverse – class, age, sexuality, gender and race.
Their taste is broad – new theatre, to opera, to performance art, to comedy, to cabaret.
They come back to see work they want to see in a place they want to be.
They like an adventure and sometimes they have the most unforgettable nights out.
I know I can rely on Soho to always have a beautiful diversity of artists.

Our artists are diverse – class, age, sexuality, gender and race.
Their taste is broad – new theatre, to opera, to performance art, to comedy, to cabaret.
They come back to make work they want to make in a place they want to be.
They like an adventure and sometimes they have the most unforgettable nights out.
Soho Theatre – the best theatre of all time in terms of artist treatment, as far as I am concerned.

Our thriving hub in Soho.
6 shows a night
3 venues
1 buzzing bar
Bang in the creative heart of London, our home is one of the country’s busiest venues with a year-round festival programme and buzzing bar.
We take our work around the country and the globe.
We transfer and present many of our shows and acts outside of Soho.
We work with our associate venues, who share the same ambitions for quality and new audiences.
We tour internationally; in the last ten years we have taken work to Japan, India, South Korea, USA, Ireland, Canada, Australia and Croatia.
Edinburgh is the largest coming together of the theatre and comedy industries in the world. We are an institution there with over 25 years under our belts.
We see over 400 shows and find many of our collaborators of the future here.
Across forms and venues it is a chance to share our newest ideas with the industry before they reach our stages.
We frequently play to 25,000+ people and have brought back 3 Edinburgh Comedy Awards, a plethora of Herald Angel Awards and Scotsman Fringe First’s and
numerous other nominations.
We are a charity and a social enterprise that is as entrepreneurial as it is innovative.
We have never stood still and the next five years are set to be exciting times for us as we:
