With generous proportions and excellent access provisions, Studio 1 is well suited for a wide range of events. Previous events have included Strictly Come Dancing, film screenings, comedy nights, rehearsals, workshops and under 6’s performances.
A distinctive Soho Theatre Setting
Studio 1 features a beautiful patterned ceiling from the building’s original 1930s design by architect Komisarjevsky. As part of the Grade II listed heritage, it brings a unique sense of character to the space. Refurbished in Soho Theatre Walthamstow’s signature green and pink tones, the ceiling creates an eye-catching backdrop for any event while staying true to its historic roots.
Measurements
Studio 1 measures 13.7m wide x 10m deep, with a ceiling height of 4m, offering plenty of room for both seated and open-floor formats. The space includes a sprung floor, making it particularly suitable for movement-based work.
At a capacity of 120 seats (non-fixed), Studio 1 can be configured to suit your event requirements. The room also features rigging bars on the outer edge, at a height of 2.7 m. Accompanying wall bars can hold up to 35kg for set pieces, lighting or drapes and spigots overhead provide flexible lighting and projection options. Each corner of the room includes a floor-to-ceiling box cupboard (780mm x 335mm) for discreet cable running and storage.
Please note: due to the the Grade II listed nature of the building and sprung floor, no painting or screw attachments are permitted.
Access
There is lift access to Studio 1, with automated double doors to support step-free access. Please let us know if you have any additional access requirements. There are gender neutral and accessible toilets on the same floor.
Add Ons
Optional extras include a mobile bar, as well as a whiteboard and screen.
Hiring This Space
As with all our spaces there is a minimum four hour booking and there may be additional staffing costs depending on times and dates.
Monday-Saturday
The building is open from 9.30am to 6pm each day for daytime hires. Evening hires are also availiable, please contact us for more details.
Availability is dependent on the Soho programme of shows, matinees and workshops.
Sunday
As we’re usually closed to the public, Sunday rates are variable, and are bespoke to your event. Contact us at stwhires@sohotheatre.com if you’d like to hire us on a Sunday.
Community rates are also available to Waltham Forest residents.
