Soho Rising Festival presents:

Kanpur: 1857

By Niall Moorjani
Co-Directed by Niall Moorjani & Jonathan Oldfield
Sat 15 Feb 25 60 minutes
The year is 1857 and strapped to a cannon, a young Indian rebel finds themselves answering to a British officer for the crimes of Kanpur and the Indian uprising.

Are they a hero or a villain? It doesn’t really matter, what is going to happen has already happened and whatever happens it’s going to be explosive.

“Everything is a story we tell…and yet you are the one who decides how it ends.”

Colonialism and the right to resistance are satarised and deconstructed in this blistering two hander starring Niall Moorjani and Jonathan Oldfield, with live music from tabla master Sodhi. Originally commissioned for the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, with thanks to Creative Scotland and National Theatre of Scotland.
