If you’re interested in collaborating, sketch writing and performance, then this is the course for you.

Our comedy lab Sketch group is perfect starting point for comedians who want to write and perform collaboratively. In our six-week sessions, you’ll have the chance to write your own sketches, perform in sketches written by others and create ideas with other comics.

Join all sessions or just the ones that are right for you.

All workshops led by Fran Bushe.

We have a number of full bursaries available to cover the cost for anyone unemployed or claiming Universal Credit or other benefits at the moment. Please email dimple@sohotheatre.com if you’d like to make a bursary request.

Schedule:

1- Generating ideas from scratch – Sat 6 Feb
Ever wondered how your favourite sketch was born? Experience the creative process of finding a kernel of an idea and popping it into the makings of a sketch.

2- Developing Sketches – Sat 13 Feb
Expand your ideas into bigger and fuller sketches. Participants are welcome to bring along a 1 line pitch or 1-2 pages of material.

3- Creating and building characters – Sat 20 Feb
The makings of a great sketch can sometimes start from the makings of a great character. Join this session to see how to create and build your own.

4- Creating comedy songs – Sat 27 Feb
Creating a good song which is also funny can be tricky. Learn the elements that make it stand out and have a go at writing your own comedy song.

5- Using lights, sound and video to bring your show to life, with star of ‘Late Night Gimp Fight’ Lee Griffiths (Having QLab software is desired but not essential to take part in this workshop) – Sat 6 Mar
The foundation of a great sketch show is making the lights, music and sound all synchronise. Lee Griffiths leads this session to talk through all things tech and QLab. Lee is one of the stars of Edinburgh sell out and Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated sketch group ‘Late Night Gimp Fight’.

6- Creating sketches for online platforms – Sat 13 Mar
The new comedy platform is here, and here to stay. See how to make your sketches really work online and stand out.

This is an online event. Bookers will be emailed on a link to the workshop one hour  in advance of their session.
