The Soho Theatre Young Company (SYC) is a melting pot of new and growing talent for those aged 11+. With numerous courses encorporating all aspects of comedy, theatre and playwriting it has quickly become one of the top arts education programmes in London and beyond. This autumn Soho Theatre plays host to shows from a bunch of its brightest new voices, including SYC members, in the Upstairs space – a studio originally designed for ‘emerging companies, young people and brave new writing.’

Nice to meet you! What’s your name?
Hey I’m Yolanda Mercy.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
Hmm interesting about myself- that’s so hard… is being a Scorpio interesting?

Tell us about your experience of SYC.
I did the writers programme about 3 years ago and have had some amazing opportunities presented to me by the soho team. I met the wonderful Jules Haworth as a result of SYC and her support has really shaped and moulded me as an artist.

What’s your show about?
I’d say dealing with growing up. I was inspired to create this piece last year when my cousin was getting married, my mate told me she was pregnant and I was trying to find ways to cheat the system and keep my young persons railcard…..

Why should people come and see it?
A lot of people who saw the show at Edinburgh said that “Quarter Life Crisis is so hilarious, relatable and entertaining”.

You can catch Yolanda Mercy in Quarter Life Crisis on Nov 2 at 7pm.
