Cabaret & Drag Lab

Cabaret & Drag Lab

Saturdays (weekly), Term 1 12.45pm-3.15pm

Age Range: 18+

Are you a drag or cabaret artist looking to develop your act? Thinking about trying something new?

Applications reopen in November 2017
Next term runs 7 Oct-2 Dec with a performance on 16 Dec.

Soho Theatre is one of London’s most vibrant venues for Cabaret, celebrating and supporting a wide range of cabaret and drag artists.

Soho regulars Bourgeois & Maurice will lead in the fundamentals of cabaret and drag. This 10 week course will cover topics including creating a character, improvising with an audience and developing an ‘open script’, using music as a vehicle for satire, and playing with gender. No experience necessary.

Blending the line between contemporary cabaret, alternative comedy and prancing around in sequins, Bourgeois & Maurice have established themselves as one of the UK’s most subversive and innovative musical acts. They had one of the top twenty best-reviewed comedy shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2016 with How to Save the World Without Really Trying (produced by Soho Theatre), and their work has been seen around the globe from New York to Belgrade, from a converted public toilet to the Royal Opera House.
Don’t miss their new show here with us this month – Style Over Substance, A 10 Year Retro-Speculative

Our Cabaret & Drag Lab run as a 10 week course, leading to a public sharing at the end of the term. We ask that participants commit to attending all 10 weeks.
