Greg Proops is a stand-up comic from San Francisco who lives in Hollywood and it’s not that bad, really. Now he returns to London for a brief but drunken run full of vitriol and lazy barbs.

Mr. Proops has performed his ranty “jokes” at every bloody festival in the world in the including Melbourne, Sydney, Wellington, Auckland, Austin, San Francisco, Montreal and Edinburgh.

Greg is perhaps best known for his unpredictable appearances on the improvised comedy Whose Line is it Anyway? He appeared on both the UK and US versions. But do not let that deter you, he has caustic gags and lengthy diatribes. You will overcome your own fears and join Greg in hating those who deserve scorn. He hates what you hate.

How strong are the bonds of friendship when your world is overturned? A successful art dealer returns to his native Germany, keeping a correspondence with his close Jewish friend back in America. Against a backdrop of austerity, recession and rising nationalism, their former allegiances become distorted beyond recognition.

Kathrine Kressmann Taylor’s classic pre-war text is brought to life in a powerful new production directed by Steve Marmion.

Written as an anti-fascist call to arms, Address Unknown was banned in 30s Germany for dramatically exposing the threat of Nazism. It became an international literary sensation and social phenomenon. Today it is a timely warning of how humanity can fail in the face of extreme ideology.

Soho Theatre is proud to present this unique theatrical event in partnership with Institut francais, JW3, the Jewish Community Centre London, with performances in French and English. Thanks to generous funding from the Mohamed S. Farsi Foundation 1,000 tickets have been made available to under 26s for just £10.

Search for a Twitter Composer is about finding, nurturing and developing musical theatre writers of the future – and helping their work be seen and heard by a whole new audience. And just like last year the contest is being run online – with the public helping decide who wins.

After the first round closes – and all entries have been considered – then you can come along to two showcases at Soho Theatre, followed by a live final in July. The ultimate aim is to develop the winning musical and hopefully staging a production.

The Verity Bargate Award is our biennial search for the distinct new voices of the theatre makers of the future.

The VBA was established in memory of Soho Theatre’s co-founder and celebrates its 30th year in 2013.

The prize this year is £5000 in respect of an exclusive option to produce the winning play. Open to first time and early career writers, the award is not just a search for one winning script, the majority of the last shortlist have seen further development or professional productions.

Submissions are open from 1 – 30 June 2013.

Fresh from its destruction of a tent in Dalston, a speakeasy in Shepherd’s Bush and a barge on the Thames, fearless comedy night #ACMS marches on a fancy cellar in Soho to boldly experiment and nobly fail.

David Baddiel hasn’t done a full stand-up show in 15 years. He’s decided to put his toe back in the water of live comedy here at the Soho Theatre with a work-in-progress show, called – working title only – Fame: Not The Musical.

Double-Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Andrew Maxwell is back at Soho Theatre with a work in progress of his brand new show Banana Kingdom, featuring his fearlessly intelligent array of topical observations, delivered in his animated and inclusive style.

As well as his continued dominance on the live circuit, Andrew is currently working on Public Enemies for BBC Radio 4, which will transmit this Autumn. It’s a series of challenging stand-up shows where he uses his trademark intelligence and political incisiveness to dig behind the clichés and assumptions about four ‘slow news’ bugbears that are vilified and consumed with equal vigour in British society: Nationalism, The Internet, Drugs and The Food Industry.

Dusty Limits, cabaret star and dangerous drinker, presents a one-man musical obituary celebrating a life lived badly. Wickedly comic and bracingly honest, Post-Mortem features original songs by Mr Limits and his long-time collaborator Michael Roulston, plus works by Bowie, Mitchell, Sondheim and more, strung together by implausible reminiscences and barbed observations.

Described by Time Out as ‘The Trailblazer’, Dusty Limits is an award-winning artist who has been at the forefront of London’s cabaret revival for over a decade. He has performed everywhere from Joe’s Pub in New York to tiny backroom bars in Berlin.

Post-Mortem was premiered at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe and was short-listed for the Time Out & Soho Theatre Award.

What’s up Doc

The ‘What’s up Doc?’ project is a series of plays written and created in response to a question or challenge established by a ‘Doc’ in conversation or correspondence with a writer. The ‘Docs’ are people who sit as Thought Leaders in their field (e.g. academic, scientific, political).

Somniloquy is an investigation into sleep and its disorders. Craig Baxter is an award-winning writer, and his collaborator, Richard Horner, is a Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the University of Toronto.

How To Begin is a collaboration between Hisham Matar, whose first novel was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and Devorah Baum, who is a Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Southampton.

The Art of Dying explores extreme old age and the death of death with a collaboration between Esther Shanson (Arcola, Trafalgar Studios) and Guy C. Brown – a Professor of Cellular Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge.

What Did It Feel Like To Go To The Moon? is a collaboration between poet, Lucy Sheerman, and Al Worden – an American astronaut who was the command pilot for the Apollo 15 lunar mission in 1971.

Return of the Vanishing Peasant is a collaboration between Ros Martin, who was shortlisted for the Alfred Fagon Award in 2002 and 20011, with a Special Commendation Award in 2010 and Professor Denise Ferreira da Silva who holds the Chair in Ethics at Queen Mary, University of London.

Agent Everywhere investigates the tricks of the drug trade and is a collaboration between Hester Chillingworth (Artistic Director of GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN) and Dr Adrian Fegan, who is a consultant to the pharmaceutical Industry.

One Act Plays

Why Can’t We Live Together? by Steve Waters (Donmar Warehouse, BBC, Channel 4) is a kaleidoscopic vision of our times through the lives of one man and one woman.

bloominauschwitz by Richard Fredman presents us with Leopold Bloom – a charming, vain cuckold, wrenched form Joyce’s Ulysses to follow his Jewish family line through the dark heart of European history and out the other side.

Swimming by Jane Upton explores connection, disconnection, the pressure of making your mark and what it is like to be trapped by your hometown. Jane’s first play Bones won critical acclaim at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe.

Swimming is a co-production between Menagerie and Colchester Mercury.

James Rhodes became the first core classical pianist to be signed to the world’s largest rock label Warner Bros Records in 2010.

His 1st album with Warner Bros, Bullets & Lullabies became his 3rd No1 iTunes album.

James presented and performed in his very own television series JAMES RHODES: PIANO MAN on Sky Arts.

Soho is Tim Arnold, and Tim Arnold is Soho.

Tim’s Soho roots stretch back to before he was born: his grandfather was actor manager for the legendary Paul Raymond in the 1950′s, and his mother made history by being the youngest nude to perform the fan-dance at the Windmill Theatre in the 1960′s. Now, Tim is at the forefront of the W1 music scene, with an act that celebrates the grit and the glamour of London’s sinful square mile in story and song.

Tim’s show comprises of a new album of original songs, compered by actor Jud Charlton, blossoming into a mini musical featuring many star guests from the worlds of TV, music and theatre, including Gary Kemp, Phil Daniels and Jessie Wallace. The show will also feature an original Windmill Theatre ’nude’ fan dance from 1964, re-enacted by burlesque performer Miss Giddy Heights.

Luke McGregor has three main fears: elevators, sharks and asking the opposite sex out on dates. This year, Luke faced his ultimate fear – he dated a female shark in an elevator – and performed a solo show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

With his natural geeky charm, hilarious observations and self-deprecating humour, Luke’s debut solo show played to sold out houses at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and saw him win the prestigious Best Newcomer Award.

Luke was a Raw Comedy National Finalist in 2008 (Australia’s largest national comedy competition – equivalent to the UK’s So You Think You’re Funny). Since then he has made regular television guest appearances on Channel 10 and the ABC and will be starring in an upcoming feature film Border Protection Squad with some of the biggest names in Australian comedy.
