WINNER: LASTMINUTE.COM EDINBURGH COMEDY AWARDS – BEST NEWCOMER 2016

One summer, Scott Gibson returned from a friend’s stag weekend in Blackpool and his brain exploded – he had suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. So, Scott did what any self-respecting Glaswegian man would do: he went back to bed and slept for 4 days, eventually waking up to discover he was now blind in one eye.

Life After Death tells the story of the three weeks that changed Scott’s life forever. From Blackpool to Glasgow to the Neurology Capital of Europe (…Govan), Scott Gibson’s debut is at once a darkly hysterical and inspiring show, delivered with the trademark filthy charisma that Scott has rapidly become renowned for. Life After Death is a tale of love and pain, and fear and hope. It’s about overcoming insurmountable odds, and how comedy can bring you back to life.

Running Time: 60 mins
Age Recommendation: 16+

She was the awkward gay kid at school with a different accent and quite a severe bout of alopecia. Never easy for a girl to fit in if she is sporting a massive comb over while harbouring secret desires for Charlies Angels (The blonde one mostly, but with a comb over, who can afford to be fussy?).

Thankfully Zoe has reached that point in her life when the thought of actually fitting in would be utterly terrifying.
Tamasha is one of the pioneers in British theatre of the ‘scratch night’ – a sneak peek of script-in-hand performances of exciting new short plays in development.

This evening features new work from four writers from Tamasha’s Developing Artist programme. The writers and pieces were selected after a call out for the best diverse new comedy writing talent. Here’s what they have in store:

Diversity Queen by Yasmeen Khan
Mehreen is the diversity queen for hire who runs the go to agency for helping ethnic minorities enter the arts. During her Diversity, Integration and Engagement (D.I.E) presentation we gain a no holds barred guide to the do’s and don’ts for getting ahead. A smart one-handed play on diversity.

Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Elbows by Olu Alakija
What is it with guys thinking they can go around showing off their elbows in public? Let alone their shoulders and knees… Well that’s what Kay thinks as she, and her slightly unconvinced bestie Eva put the world to rights. You’ll never look at elbows the same way again.

Hobnobs and Hijabs by Yasmeen Khan
After Nazreen’s nephew secretly films her singing Kylie’s Spinning Around, she quickly becomes a viral sensation. When she’s approached by TV production company Dragon TV the future seems bright. But how real a Muslim must she become to see her name up in lights. A quirky monologue from one of this year’s Tamasha Playwrights

Pickled Mangos by Aisha Hassan
It’s the day of Amina’s sister’s wedding and her mother is manically making the final preparations. But what will her mother do when Amina unveils her big secret. And will they be able to stop Mrs Khan from spilling the beans to the whole neighbourhood!?

Rank by Anthony Khaseria
How should young mini cab driver Ash ask out one of his regular customers and girl of his dreams? He wasn’t planning on seeking advice from his old-school uncle Sanjeeb…but he might not have much choice in the matter. A wickedly witty two-hander.

Age Recommendation: 14+
Running Time: Approx 100mins

‘We’ve become so politically correct that they just made Dick Van Dyke change his name to Penis Von Lesbian.’
Lady Bunny

Foul-mouthed drag legend Lady Bunny usually shies away from politics – because it’s one hell of a train wreck right now. But she doesn’t shy away from gender politics.

From the new pronoun we’re forced to learn every time Will Smith’s son puts on a dress, to Caitlyn Jenner reaching out to Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz to become his ‘trans ambassador’, Bunny feels that it’s time for the gloves to come off.

Featuring new parodies of Adele, Rent and Bruno Mars punctuated by some actually insightful social commentary (well, she thinks so anyway).

Trashing the current overemphasis on political correctness, Bunny breaks down some of the latest buzzwords that we’re all supposed to remember for every occasion.

The self proclaimed ‘pig in wig’ brings her trademark huge hair to astound and offend – prepare to be challenged.

Running Time: 90 mins
Age Recommendation: 16+
