the estate
by Oladipo Agboluaje
directed by Femi Elufowoju, jr
6 - 17 June 2006

'It's spirited, humorous, involving stuff... The Estate's doors are only open for another 10 days so make haste.' ****

Evening Standard on 8 June 2006

Helen Adeymi is frantically trying to make her husband’s funeral the media event of the year.  Her reputation is on the line to make the festivities the talk of the town and everything must be seen to go smoothly. But as his children discuss inheritance and house servants begin to question their role, the façade of a happy desirable household inevitably begins to crack…

A multi-layered social comedy, The Estate deals with classic themes - family feuds, illicit relationships, class divides – but with a contemporary Nigerian edge.

Tiata Fahodzi enjoyed huge success with The Gods are Not to Blame (Arcola, 2005) and has gained a reputation for producing bold and varied African theatre. They have collaborated with Soho’s Writer on Attachment Oladipo Agboluaje (Eclipse adaptation of Mother Courage and Her Children, 2004) to present a new play for African and British audiences alike.

Cast: Ellen Thomas (from the Lenny Henry Show, Channel 4's Theaters and presently starring in the movie Basic Instinct 2), Ayo-Dele Ajana, Kwaku Ankomah, Eddie Daniels, Yvonne Dodoo, Wale Ojo, Nick Oshikanlu and Richard Pepple
