SUMMER SEASON SHOWS ANNOUNCED

Wed 13 June 2012

Soho Theatre is delighted to announce a full summer season of theatre, comedy and cabaret to be presented both at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in London. In theatre we present new work from Phil Porter, Will Eno and Joel Horwood. In Edinburgh and in London we present acts from across the globe, including Barry Award Winner Doctor Brown and the joint Best Newcomer Winners from the Melbourne Comedy Festival Matt Okine and Ronny Chieng. Plus the return of the Soho Literary Festival.

If you’re in Edinburgh between 02 – 26 August, be sure to see Blink, the new play from award-winning playwright Phil Porter. Blink is the tale of Jonah, Sophie, and a fox called Scruffilitis. It’s a love story. A dysfunctional, voyeuristic and darkly funny love story, but a love story all the same.

If existentialist dark humour is more ‘your bag’, make sure you catch Oh, The Humanity during your Edinburgh Festival trip. Sharp, witty and playful, this collection of five short New York plays by award-winning playwright Will Eno and directed by Erica Whyman reveal the terrible hope, and hilarious uncertainty of being alive.

You may find yourself feeling a bit avant-garde after staying up ‘til who-knows-when-in-the-morning watching I-know-not-what in Edinburgh, so head on over to I Heart Peterborough and immerse yourself in Joel Horwood’s camp but decidedly dark show; a no holds barred depiction of ‘growing up gay’ in a provincial city complete with skinheads, biro tattoos, wedgies in the school bogs and heavy petting at the lido!

For all those Cabaret lovers out there, and you know all too well who you are, be sure to go and see award-winning cabaret stars Bourgeois & Maurice a musical-duo with style as sharp as their wit. Their new Edinburgh show SUGARTITS has them twisting modern life into some of the catchiest, most peculiar pop songs you’ll hear, bringing their unrivalled mix of social commentary, musical comedy and fashion so high you’ll wonder what you’ve taken.

And finally some comedy – it is Edinburgh after all. Rapidly becoming an international comedy sensation, 2011 Total Theatre Award nominee and 2012 Melbourne Comedy festival winner Doctor Brown goes back to Edinburgh with a brand new hour of absurd visual humour, memorably titled BEFRDFGTH. You won’t be forgetting that in a hurry.

Have a lovely summer, and if you’re in Edinburgh this August we hope to see you there! If not, you can see all of these shows when they come to Soho theatre after the festival.
