Soho Theatre meets... Tez IlyasThu 16 March
We had a chat with Tez Ilyas ahead of his run here from Tue 21 Mar
Hi! Nice to meet you, what’s your name?
Aww thank you, my name is Tez Ilyas
Where are you from?
What brings you here?
I am performing a run of my critically acclaimed stand-up show, Made in Britain, at your fine establishment
Sorry, didn’t get you a drink, what would you like?
No problem, may I please have an Appletiser?
Some crisps or nuts?
Crisps please. Pickled Onion Monster Munch if they’re going…
So, what’s so special about your show?
The show is about the personal experiences of someone a lot of audiences will not have come across every day and so will give a chance for my Tezbians to get to know who I am, my background, what makes me tick and there’s also one or two pretty big revelations that should hopefully leave people pretty open-mouthed. All interspersed with lots of lols and a sprinkle of lmaos.
How did the idea of the show come about?
The show came about after a conversation with friends, and I realised that although I’m British, because of my background I have had a tonne of not-typical British experiences growing up, but by virtue of the fact they happened to me in Britain, means they ARE too British experiences now. I found that fascinating and wanted to share that with all of you
Do you come here often?
Quite often. Either to see shows or catch-up with friends at the bar. Also I love your Pakistani doorman. We talk about the motherland a lot.
Where are you going after here…
On a nationwide tour of the show. It’s my first ever one, so I’m pretty excited… Eeeeeek!
